A class focused on using strength, stability, and flexibility to accomplish acrobatic skills for stage performance. By using a dancer’s technique and musicality, Acro class incorporates their skills with the beautiful movement of dance seamlessly.

Acro Requisites: None – Ballet and Jazz Recommended
Tumbling: Acro/Open co-requisite
Tumbling is not a performance class

BALLET/POINTE

The foundation of all styles of dance, which has developed through centuries. Ballet is a disciplined, highly technical, study of dance. The dancer develops proper body placement, grace, technique, and strength.

Pointe: A form of ballet presented on the tips of the toes, made possible by specialized pointe shoes. There are different varieties of ballet en pointe, but for the most part they focus on grace and specific technique.

PRE-POINTE

Pre-Pointe is designed for ballet students ages 11+ who wish to dance en pointe in the future. This class is designed to help dancers achieve the strength and flexibility in their feet and ankles needed for pointe work. This will involve exercises both away and at the barre. Dancers will also work on their general alignment and technique during these exercises to ensure that they can safely support themselves while en pointe. All dancers in pre-pointe must have completed at least 2 years of ballet and currently be enrolled in at least one ballet class. Every dancer will go en pointe at their own pace and will be allowed to move up to pointe only with instructor approval. This class is open to dancers who wish to be en pointe in the future and those who would like some additional strength training.

Pre-pointe is done barefoot and in ballet shoes, so there is no need to purchase pre-pointe or pointe shoes. Dancers will need a lightweight theraband and a tennis or bouncy ball to roll their muscles out with.

BREAKDANCE

Breakdance is also called breaking or b-boying/b-girling.

It is an athletic style of street dance composed of toprock, downrock, power moves, freezes and more.

CONTEMPORARY

Contemporary dance is an expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres. Classical dance training is imperative for contemporary dance breaks the rules of classical technique and strives to connect the mind and the body with creative freedom.

Requisites: Min 1 year ballet experience and ballet co-requisite

Creative Movement

An introductory dance class for children, both boys and girls, to develop the necessary skills needed to participate in a structured class routine while learning and enjoying fun music, rhythmic dance, socialization skills, stretch, and body awareness. This class is a wonderful way for a child who loves music and movement to develop a positive attitude toward learning and the classroom.

This class will be performing 1 routine in the June recital.

Freestyle Techniques

An introduction class focusing on musicality, self expression and confidence. Diving into a variety of freestyle exercises and cyphers, students will gain a new understanding of the music-movement connection and expand upon their own unique style.

Hip Hop

Highlighting hip hop history and culture, this class focuses on grooves, musicality exercises and foundational movements that will build coordination, stamina, and confidence.

Hip Hop Foundations

This foundations class will bring your movements to the next level. Celebrating hip hop music and culture, this class will strengthen your foundational steps and boost your social dance style.

Requisites: None

Improvisation

Dance improvisation is the process of spontaneously creating movement.

The dancer will evolve through a structure or assigned framework.

Improvisation class has an optional performance.

Intro to Dance (Tap/Ballet)

For the boys and girls who are ready to learn and explore the FUNdamentals of dance, this class will introduce the basic dance vocabulary and steps associated within the genres of ballet and tap. Children will engage in fun routines and learn about body positions, balance, and rhythmic sounds and tempo of tap shoes while engaging in games and enjoying music.

This class will perform 2 routines in the June recital.

Intro to Voice/Acting

Warm ups of the body and the voice, breathing techniques, facial expression and body awareness, acting games and exercises, monologues and scene study both from published works and no published works, audition preparation, improvisation, Acting techniques of Stanislavski and Method among others, Audition Preparation.

Proper posture, breathing techniques, vocal warm ups and exercises to learn placement and expansion of range, pitch matching and intonation exercises, ear training, music theory and knowledge of how to read music, sight reading, repertoire spanning different styles and genres, Audition Preparation.

JAZZ

Requisites: None – Ballet recommended

LYRICAL

Lyrical dance challenges the dancer to show the meaning of the music with their movements and is heavily based on ballet training.

Requisites: Ballet co-requisite

MUSICAL THEATRE

Musical Theatre is a style that includes dance technique and acting to songs from Broadway and musicals. The class will focus on learning performance skills such as connecting with the audience and telling a story through dance and facial expressions. Many different styles of dance will be blended together, and props might also be incorporated.
